Younger Dryas Airburst at Abu Hureyra

Abu Hureyra is a real and important prehistoric site on the Euphrates in northern Syria. It preserves one of the major archaeological sequences for studying the shift from foraging to farming in Southwest Asia. The site was excavated before it was flooded by Lake Assad, and its archaeological record is especially important for late Epipaleolithic and early Neolithic lifeways. The airburst claim comes mainly from a 2020 Scientific Reports paper by Moore and collaborators. The authors reported meltglass, nanodiamonds, microspherules, charcoal, and platinum-group or impact-associated element anomalies in layers they associate with the Younger Dryas Boundary.
