Mnajdra / Ħaġar Qim
Mnajdra and Ħaġar Qim are among the best-known prehistoric temple sites in Malta. They belong to the broader Megalithic Temples of Malta UNESCO World Heritage property. Their architecture shows Malta’s Neolithic temple tradition: large stone blocks, curved plans, forecourts, internal chambers, decorated or shaped stones, and careful use of local limestone. Mnajdra is especially important for archaeoastronomy because the lower or south temple is commonly described as having clear solar effects at the equinoxes and solstices.
