Clovis Comet Claim
The Clovis Comet Claim is one of the most famous modern catastrophe claims connected to Ice Age North America. In its common form, it says that about 12,800 to 12,900 years ago Earth encountered debris from a comet or asteroid. The proposed event supposedly caused massive fires, climate disruption, megafaunal extinctions, and the disappearance or major disruption of Clovis culture. The strongest point for the claim is that the Younger Dryas was real, abrupt climate change was real, Clovis culture did change around this period, and cosmic impacts/airbursts are physically possible. Some researchers have reported materials they interpret as impact proxies, including microspherules, nanodiamonds, platinum anomalies, melt glass, charcoal, soot, and other markers.

The Clovis Comet Claim is one of the most famous modern catastrophe claims connected to Ice Age North America. In its common form, it says that about 12,800 to 12,900 years ago Earth encountered debris from a comet or asteroid. The proposed event supposedly caused massive fires, climate disruption, megafaunal extinctions, and the disappearance or major disruption of Clovis culture. The strongest point for the claim is that the Younger Dryas was real, abrupt climate change was real, Clovis culture did change around this period, and cosmic impacts/airbursts are physically possible.
